Green Statement

Southern Aluminum has been constructing durable aluminum tables for over 30 years that adhere to our stringent guidelines of product innovation, consumer efficiency, and green initiatives. The increased emphasis being placed on recycled components, sustainability, reusable resources, and other earth friendly attributes, commonly referred to as the “green” agenda, are very important to Southern Aluminum.
As global environmental awareness becomes a pertinent practice in manufacturing processes, Southern Aluminum continually evaluates and adjusts methods of production to preserve natural resources and the current state of our environment.
Aluminum is one of the most recycled materials on the planet. By incorporating this green material in all of our product designs, Southern Aluminum naturally offers one of the most sustainable product lines available, as our products contain 80-85% total recycled content, 43% of which is derived from post-consumer content. All of our products are 100% recyclable at the end of their long life, translating to no metal from Southern Aluminum products will ever end up in a landfill because these products do not need to be discarded.
Facts/Statistics about 'green' and 'sustainable' qualities of aluminum:
- • Seventy (70%) percent of all aluminum produced since the year 1886 is still in use today.
- • Recycling aluminum saves ninety-five (95%) percent of the energy it would take to produce new metal from bauxite ore.
- • Every ton of recycled aluminum saves four (4) tons of the raw bauxite (used to make aluminum) required to produce ‘new’ aluminum.
- • Using recycled aluminum instead of raw material reduces air pollution by 95% and water consumption by 97%.
LEED
LEED is the U.S. Green Building Council’s rating system that is a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of ‘green’ buildings. There is no single product or building material that may accurately be classified as ‘LEED certified’ in and of itself. The complete overall building design and construction merits LEED certification.
The following is a partial list of credits that Southern Aluminum products can contribute toward LEED certification:
LEED MR Credit 4.1 and 4.2 - Post Consumer Content
LEED IEQ Credit 4.2 - Low Emitting Material
LEED MR Credit 5.1 - Regional Materials
